Unterallgäu in clean-up fever: over two tons of garbage collected!

In an impressive community campaign, committed citizens in the Unterallgäu district have once again set an example for a clean environment. Under the motto "Pack mer's! Clean Lower Allgäu", over 50 groups and clubs have already helped to collect more than two tons of garbage. This environmental initiative, which has now taken place for the third time this year, shows how much people want to do for their homeland. The collected waste, including old tires and various other waste materials, was taken to the transfer station in Breitenbrunn and to recycling centers in cities such as Bad Wörishofen and Mindelheim. Loud Augsburger Allgemeine District Administrator Alex Eder emphasized how important citizen engagement is.

Collect trash three times in less than a year? This not only makes a big difference to the environment, but also enriches the sense of community. Participants reported that the activities were great fun and that many new acquaintances were made. The campaign is not just a one-off event, but rather contributes to strengthening social cohesion in the towns. In addition, cash prizes of 100 euros each will be raffled off for the upcoming campaigns to increase the incentive to participate. Prize winners in the current round are the Hawangen fruit and horticultural association, the Christoph-Scheiner primary school Markt Wald, the Sontheim-Attenhausen Nature Conservation Association, the Mindelheim singers' association and the Rainbow daycare center from Stetten.

A comprehensive spring cleaning

The hard-working helpers are part of the annual “spring cleaning” of the municipal waste management of the Unterallgäu district, which aims to encourage even less active communities to take part. Those interested can obtain further information about participation directly from the waste advisory service. The district office aims to create greater awareness of environmental protection through these projects and cordially invites clubs, school classes and other groups to participate.

In addition to pure waste disposal, there is a larger goal behind this commitment: raising awareness of the problem of waste on rivers, lakes and coasts. Actions organized in a similar form show how nature suffers from the remains of single-use products. The “Water Rescuers” initiative brings together what belongs together: people who want to actively support our ecological balance. Tips for implementing collection campaigns are particularly valuable here in order to avoid damage to the flora and fauna. NABU provides approaches on how best to proceed and what equipment is required.

For all those who want to get ready for the next actions from now on, exchange and shared commitment are crucial. The next major garbage collection campaign is already planned for 2026. So it will be exciting to see who will next get francs, vegetables and glass bottles with the motto “Pack mer’s!” may collect. Participants are already looking forward to new adventures and the prospect of overall nicer and cleaner environments for everyone!
