TSV St. Magnus in the crisis: sports hall soon history?

The gymnastics and sports club (TSV) St. Magnus, which was founded in 1897 and has around 500 members, faces an uncertain future. A conflict with the property owner about the use of the sports hall at the address on the Hohe Ufer 124 could lead to the loss of the facility. The landlord demands a monthly fee of 5000 euros, which exceeds the financial possibilities of the association. The association had previously paid a rent payment of 1340 euros per month.

According to Dirk Schmidtmann, the club chairman, the sports hall is of crucial importance for the future of the association. The property owner plans to convert the main building into a pizzeria, but has not confirmed a building application on request. Yannoh Mügge, deputy spokesman for the Senator for Building, Mobility and Urban Development, confirmed that there was no formal building application or a preliminary building request for the pizzeria. TSV St. Magnus recently left its office and administrative rooms and found a new location.

rental disputes burden the association

Negotiations with the landlord about a lower rent have so far been unsuccessful. The TSV has offered a maximum rent of 2500 euros and requires an annual rent subsidy of 10,000 euros from the sports office. The association has prepared for an eviction lawsuit because the landlord tried to prevent the use of the hall by installing new door locks, but this was prohibited by court order.

At the moment the sports company continues unchanged, but Canan Sevil, deputy press spokeswoman at the Senator of the Interior and Sport, expressed the concerns that it is unrealistic to find an appropriate replacement for the sports hall. All halls in the area are already booked, which means that the association is considerably limited in its freedom of action. In the worst case, the association could be dissolved and deleted from the register of associations if no sports facility is found.

In addition, there is indications that the property owner plowed a green area on the site, fell two trees and bushes have been eliminated, which suggests that a parking space for the planned pizzeria is to be created there. Florian Boehlke, Head of Burglesum, also expressed doubts about the realizability of the pizzeria due to the lack of parking spaces in the area.

TSV St. Magnus is therefore in a critical situation in which the sporting and social future of the association is at stake, while the talks with the landlord continue to be unsuccessful, as several reports prove.
