British Fighter Tempest: High technology for air superiority!

The British "Global Combat Air Program" develops the new fighter jet called "Tempest" in cooperation with Italy and Japan. This sixth generation Jet is to fly for the first time in 2035. According to an officer of the British Air Force, group captain Bill, the Tempest will have an "extreme range", which could possibly enable him to cross the Atlantic without refueling. The Jet is also supposed to replace the European Typhoon jets and appear as a serious challenger for the American F-47 starcaps jets that have already been announced by US President Donald Trump.

The F-35A is currently considered one of the most modern fighter planes that can wear about 2.6 tons of weapons in tap mode. In comparison, the Tempest is expected to offer a payload of almost five tons - twice as much as its American competitor. This massive capacity is one of the main priorities of the Tempest program, as group captain Bill emphasizes.

technological innovations

A demonstrator that is expected to fly in 2027 will be built as part of the Tempest program. A flying test bed, a converted Boeing 757 with the name "Excalibur", is already testing various sensors and systems that are important for the tempest. These systems also include new, long-range air-air rockets that are currently being developed.

Tempest will not only operate as a manner, but also act as a central junction for the use of unmanned systems and network -based weapons. Bill describes the Tempest as a "quarterback" within the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), which integrates new weapon systems and unmanned platforms. The aim of these technologies is to give the Tempest the function of a "flying server rack" that effectively supports unmanned systems.

Future view

However, the planning and development of the Tempest requires significant technological progress and overcoming political challenges. In particular, the Air Force sees the range of the Tempest as crucial in order to be able to operate independently in various combat scenarios. In the 2040s, later than originally planned, the Tempest should replace the existing Typhoon jets and thus ensure the air superiority of Europe.

Since the requirements for modern fighter jets are constantly changing, the discussion about the relevance of mannered fighter planes remains in an age of unmanned systems. Group captain Bill emphasizes that despite the advent of unmanned technologies, the role of pilots and mannered jets will continue to be of great importance.
