Red-green coalition in Hamburg: Reading on with a new contract!

The red-green coalition in Hamburg remains in power. As the Remszeitung reported, the SPD and the Greens have approved the 148-page coalition agreement. This decision was made at a special state meeting of the Greens, which took place in the Opera Loft in the Altona ferry terminal with around 350 members. Only about two dozen members voted against it. The coalition agreement is to be officially signed on Tuesday.

Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) intends to face the re -election in the Hamburg citizens on May 7th. He and the Greens have been running the shops in Hamburg together since 2015. In the election of the citizens on March 2, 2023, however, both parties suffered losses, although the SPD remained the strongest force, but the Greens fell in third place behind the CDU.

Particular attention is paid to the construction of 10,000 new apartments annually and the support of the controversial building of the A26-Ost.

The talks about the coalition agreement began on March 27, 2025. For April 29, 2025, the coordination of the SPD's state party conference is scheduled for the contract, followed by the State Mirrors' meeting of the Greens on May 1, 2025.
