Marco Richter: The new star of Darmstadt 98 attacks!
With a breath of fresh air and a healthy dose of ambition, Marco Richter made the leap from FSV Mainz 05 to SV Darmstadt 98. The striker, who recently returned from a loan spell at Hamburger SV, now faces the challenge of making a name for himself in the 2nd Bundesliga. The preparation at Mainz didn't go quite as planned, he didn't have much playing time in the test matches, and he was then recommended to try new things. Darmstadt, known for its passionate football, quickly aroused and convinced interest in a move, as hessenschau.de reports.
Although the move from Mainz to Darmstadt could be seen as a step backwards for many, Richter sees it completely differently. He wants to shine on the pitch and celebrate success together with his new teammates. “I want to help the team and hope for a lot of scorer points,” explains Richter, who made his debut for the Lilies just a few days ago.
Fast start near Darmstadt
Just two days after his signing, Richter was in the starting line-up for the home game against VfL Bochum and was able to impress with his performance in the away win in Nuremberg. After these two successes, Darmstadt even took second place in the table. Although Richter noted that he still lacks “a few percent” of liveliness, he is willing to continue working on himself. “This is due to the intense playing style of the lilies,” he says. So far he has been substituted early in both games, but that does not diminish the anticipation of the challenges ahead.
Marco Richter, born on November 24, 1997 in Friedberg, Bavaria, began his career at SV Ried in 1951 before Bayern Munich discovered him. As one of the most promising talents, he joined the Munich youth department and later moved to the FC Augsburg Academy. Richter impressed there, including with 24 goals in 16 games for the U19s and a successful debut in the Bundesliga in 2017. After stints at Hertha BSC and Hamburger SV, he is now moving to Darmstadt, where he is counting on the support of the fans.
A contract with perspective
Although he came to Darmstadt as a loan player from Mainz 05 - his contract with Mainz runs until the summer of 2027 - Richter sees his time with the Lilies as an opportunity to develop further. The opportunity to play regularly and prove himself motivates him. The club is also known for its committed style of play, which fascinated Richter and convinced him of the idea of leaving the club. Fans can be excited to see what this talented player will achieve in the near future, as the first steps of his journey have already looked promising.
