Fischer Reisen starts flight operations at Kassel Airport – but where is the approval?
A new star in the flying sky above Kassel: Fischer Reisen announces the founding of a new airline that will begin its first flights from Kassel Airport from December 21, 2025. The company, behind the experienced entrepreneur Václav Fischer, is planning connections to popular holiday destinations such as Mallorca from 99 euros and Crete from 149 euros. The Canary Islands and Slovakia are also planned to be served, which will certainly boost travel enjoyment in the region. But there are also some hurdles to overcome, because the official operating license for the airline is still pending, as Tagesschau reports.
The airline will operate under the name Fischer Air and will charter modern Boeing 737-800s from Slovakia. Despite managing director Lars Ernst's ambitious plans, the industry remains skeptical. Consumer advocate Peter Lassek expressed concerns about payment options: Currently, payments can only be made by bank transfer within 48 hours, which could bring additional uncertainty. Fischer Air has made repeated attempts at a comeback in the past, but all of them failed - a cautionary tale that remains in the back of our minds.
Kassel Airport is changing
Kassel Airport, which has been struggling in the red since it opened in 2013, is hoping for a new perspective from Fischer Reisen. Instead of a stable flight connection, there are currently only sporadic holiday flights, which makes the need for a regular winter flight schedule all the more urgent. Fischer Reisen could fill a gap here and provide more travel opportunities, as the region, with over 1,100 employees in over 30 companies in the aviation sector, can rely on excellent location conditions, as kassel-airport.de shows.
But the company still has a long way to go, because the Fischer Reisen website advertises promising vacation pictures, but remains vague regarding contact information. The address refers to Lake Constance Airport in Friedrichshafen, which raises questions about its reliability. Customers should think carefully about whether to accept this offer, especially since the type of purchase and the impressions of an uncertain provider do not exactly inspire trust.
Entry into the competition
Fischer has previous experience in tourism, and although the company was sold to Condor in 1995 and went bankrupt in 2005, some believe that Václav Fischer's third attempt could be promising. He speaks of a comeback by Fischer Air, which was announced in spring 2024 and is being perceived just as excitingly by the airlines in Hamburg, Kassel and Friedrichshafen, as fvw.de reports.
So it remains exciting to see whether Fischer Reisen can actually regain trust and stabilize flight connections. A fact that certainly gives hope to many travelers in the region - because more flight offers mean more opportunities to fly into the sun.
