A serious accident occurred today, October 27, 2025, at around 11:33 a.m. on the A66 in the direction of Fulda, just before Flieden. A 33-year-old driver from Fulda lost control of her BMW on the rain-soaked road, causing the vehicle to roll over. This unpleasant situation brought numerous emergency services into action because the driver was injured and had to be taken straight to the hospital. Their route originally led from Schlüchtern towards Flieden when the accident happened.
When the police were alerted, the right lane was immediately closed, which was later extended to the entire road. Leaking operating fluids also required the intervention of the lower water authority. A long oil trail was visible on the road, which significantly increased the danger for other road users. The material damage caused is estimated to be in the five-figure range. In addition to the police, the Schlüchtern fire department, an emergency doctor and a towing service were on site to bring the situation under control.
The hit in the water
Interestingly, this incident is not the first on the A66 in recent days. A similar accident occurred near Steinau an der Straße on October 22, 2025, when a driver of a BMW Z4 lost control on the same rain-soaked road. The vehicle crashed into the guardrail and came to a stop across the road. In this case, the driver only suffered minor injuries. Here too, the fire brigade and rescue service were quickly on the scene to secure the scene of the accident and recover the damaged BMW. The A66 was completely closed for around 30 minutes during the rescue work.
