Digital freedom for seniors: smartphone course in Mörfelden!
Using technology can be a challenge, especially for older people, who often belong to the generation that grew up with typical cell phones. In order to break down this barrier, the Groß-Gerau District Adult Education Center offers a smartphone course for seniors. Ralph Robert Beier will introduce participants to the modern world of smartphones and show them how they can use them to contact family and friends, send pictures and even listen to the radio for free. That reports that Echo Online.
The courses will take place on two dates: on Friday, September 12th, and on Monday, September 15th, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Mörfelden district office, Bahnhofstraße 38. The participation fee is 79 euros. Interested seniors can register with the KVHS on 06152 1870-0 or by email at info@kvhsgg.de. The prerequisite for participation is a charged Android smartphone, which participants must bring with them.
Knowledge for everyday life
The course focuses not only on how to use the devices, but also on important aspects such as protection against crime and emergency assistance. At a time when smartphones are increasingly becoming an integral part of our everyday lives, it is important that all generations can understand and use this technology. According to information on Wikipedia Smartphones have changed drastically in form and function since they were first released in 1994. The first commercially available smartphone, the IBM Simon, was capable of making calls, sending faxes and receiving emails and was already considered a milestone in the development of mobile phones.
From the limited capabilities of previous devices to today's multifunctional tools that allow you to take pictures, make calls and access the Internet, smartphones have evolved rapidly. It is all the more important these days that seniors also learn how to use these technologies to avoid miscommunication and stay close to their families.
The best smartphones at a glance
The smartphone market has been characterized by strong competition over the past few years, with brands such as Samsung, Google and Apple continually introducing new models. A current favorite, as by Tom's Guide reported is the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is currently considered the best smartphone available. It comes with a 6.9-inch display, a quad camera and impressive AI features. The Google Pixel 9a also offers excellent camera performance at a cheaper price of under $500.
With a variety of features, from the ability to take photos to using social media, smartphones have made many people's lives much easier. But this is exactly where the smartphone course comes in: so that older generations can also exploit the full potential of their devices.
In summary, the smartphone course not only represents a great opportunity for seniors to better understand the digital world, but also offers a valuable space to exchange ideas and make new contacts. If you are interested, you should register quickly because places are limited!
