SV Kathus celebrates 100 years with celebrations, honors and new highlights!

The celebrations for the 100th anniversary of SV Kathus last weekend thrilled not only the members of the club, but also numerous guests from the surrounding area. In bright weather and full of spirits, the anniversary was celebrated in the packed Solztalhalle with a great Festkommers. The event was chaired by the 1st chairman Daniel Heyer opened, which offered a look back at the club's eventful history and looked into the future.

The moderation took over Marcel Mahler, who is known as the chairman of the Kathus carnival association. In addition to thanks to the local chronicler Karl-Heinz Otto, who compiled the club's chronicle, numerous honors were also given. The well-wishers included Mayor Anke Hofmann, District Administrator Torsten Warnecke and representatives of the Hessian Ministry of Sport and Health, the Hersfeld-Rotenburg sports district and the Hessian Football Association.

The special honors

A special highlight of the evening was the recognition of the voluntary work of Rolf Roth and Elke Roth by the local mayor Michael Barth. The club currently has 635 members who are active in various groups, including hiking, table tennis, gymnastics, fitness, football, carnival and barbecue sports. Performances by Funkenmariechen Nina Ziehn and the carnival guard also created an exuberant atmosphere.

The celebrations included an extensive program that mobilized the entire village community over the course of the weekend. On Thursday, curious people could watch the guard and show dance training as well as the gymnastics and fitness group or take part themselves. There was a huge circuit training session for table tennis enthusiasts.

New grandstand and festive events

The club's 100th anniversary coincided with the opening of a new grandstand at the Kathus sports field, which was completed in time for the festival. The old stand was replaced by a modern, covered new building in just one and a half months. The barrier-free design of the paths between the grill and drinks stand as well as the commentary booth ensures convenient access. The wooden benches with an engraved club logo now offer space for around 25 spectators. The construction costs amounted to around 90,000 euros, which was higher than originally estimated due to unforeseen disposal costs for illegally dumped building rubble East Hesse News reported.

In addition to the inauguration of the new terrace at the clubhouse and the barbecue hut on Friday, the program for the festival weekend also included a disco party with DJ Jonas on Saturday. Other highlights included a helicopter tour over the homeland and a quiz on Sunday that put the participants to the test. The ceremonial conclusion was an ecumenical service on Sunday morning, followed by music from “Die Wilddiebe”.

The honors for long-standing members were also not neglected. Daniel Heyer received the silver plaque of honor from the Prime Minister, while Evelyn Mähler received the badge of honor in gold for 45 years of membership. Other awards included:
