Big dachshund walk: celebration for Erdmann in the Bergpark starts soon!

On September 20, 2025, a very special event will take place in the picturesque Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe: The Great Dachshund Walk. The event, which takes place between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., is organized by Hessen Kassel Heritage in collaboration with the German Teckelklub Group Kassel e.V. The occasion is in memory of Erdmann, Kaiser Wilhelm II's famous favorite dachshund. The event not only promises a lot of fun for dogs and their owners, but also exciting activities and a cozy afternoon in a unique environment.

Participation in the event is possible for all dogs, not just dachshunds. However, every dog must bring a valid vaccination certificate with all required vaccinations. The vaccination certificates will be checked on site on the day of the event. There is also a participation fee of 10 euros per dog. You can easily register via the website www.heritage-kassel.de, by phone at 0561 316 80–123 or by email at service@heritage-kassel.de. Park regulations require that all dogs be kept on a leash.

Fun activities in the park

The Great Dachshund Walk offers a variety of activities that will provide fun and entertainment. Participants can look forward to exciting stations where slalom running, balancing and a knowledge quiz await them. There will be a small recognition at the end of the event for the very eager participants. The start and end of the rally are at the church wing of Wilhelmshöhe Castle, while the rally itself starts from the ball house in the Bergpark from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The Wilhelmshöhe mountain park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, impresses not only with its impressive architecture, but also with its spectacular water features and important monuments such as the Hercules Monument. Here you can experience the beauties of nature and architecture in a unique ambience. The park is characterized by five central stations over a distance of around two kilometers that show impressive water features, including the baroque cascades and the Steinhöfer waterfall. These monuments attract large numbers of tourists and locals alike all year round, and the park is always worth free access, which makes it particularly attractive.

The event not only honors Erdmann the dachshund, but also creates the opportunity to actively experience the extensive park. Arthur, a dachshund who, funnily enough, acts as a companion in a new brochure “With Erdmann through the mountain park,” leads visitors through the exciting landscape. This means dog lovers and their four-legged friends can explore the park and learn a lot about its history at the same time.

So pack the leash, bring your dog, and get ready for a fun-filled afternoon in mountainous Kassel. If you have any questions about the event, interested parties can contact the organizers to ensure a problem-free visit. The Great Dachshund Walk promises to be a highlight for dogs and humans!
