Future Day in Kassel: 75 trainees master the path into professional life!

Today, on November 3rd, 2025, the Kassel Chamber of Crafts launched an exciting initiative: the first “Future Day – Your Crash Course for Life”. In this educational format, which took place at the education center in Kassel-Waldau, 75 trainees who wanted to prepare for the transition from school to the professional world took part. OP Marburg reports, that Future Day covered numerous topics, including taxes, rent, insurance and finance.

Jürgen Müller, General Manager of the Kassel Chamber of Crafts, emphasized how important these events are in order to invest in future skilled workers. A trainee painter and varnisher, Maximilian Martin, emphasized the importance of knowing the basics about insurance. For many young people, this knowledge is a key to becoming financially independent.

From the idea to the program

The Future Day has its origins in a student project from 2019 and was professionalized by the Initiative for Economic Youth Education (IWJB). Almost 600 Future Days took place last year, which shows that this concept has met with a great response. The founder and managing director of the IWJB, Lorenzo Wienecke, explained that the main goal is to give young people security in dealing with finances.

This commitment fits seamlessly into the current debate about supporting young people in their professional careers. The youth employment agencies play a central role here. They should act as local contacts and offer needs-oriented advice and support. The BIBB highlights that these agencies also contribute to making transitions between school and work inclusive in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The challenges of starting a career

A central issue that the agencies must address is the tension between young people's freedom of career choice and companies' need for skilled workers. Historical data shows that today more than half of young people successfully complete vocational training, whereas 100 years ago many young people were employed without training. This illustrates the change in the education system and the importance of qualified vocational training personnel, especially for the participation and inclusion of disabled people.

In the political debate about vocational training, the permeability between vocational and higher education education is also emphasized. The aim is to train young people so that they can survive in a dynamic job market. This is supported by the promotion of dual study courses in crafts, which are becoming increasingly popular.

The Future Day in Kassel is an important step to accompany young people on their way into the professional world and to give them the necessary tools. At a time when the demands on the job market are constantly changing, it is more important than ever to focus on financial aspects in order to best prepare the young generation for their future.
