E-scooter driver fled disoriented after an accident in Langenselbold!

In Langenselbold, shortly before 8 a.m. on Friday, June 6th, there was a serious accident between an e-scooter and a car. The 57-year-old driver was traveling on the ring road towards the roundabout when the 14 to 15-year-old e-scooter driver came from the left and collided with the car. Despite the unfortunate collision, the teenage driver determined that everything was fine and simply drove away. The damage to the car amounts to around 1,000 euros. The police are very interested in finding witnesses to the incident and are asking for information on 06183 91155-0 gnz.de reported.

Accidents like this are not isolated cases. Just recently, another serious accident occurred on Sunday between an e-scooter and a cyclist in the region. A 12-year-old boy from Hasselroth was riding his e-scooter and overlooked a 66-year-old cyclist, who suffered serious facial injuries despite wearing a helmet. The young driver had to be flown to hospital in a rescue helicopter due to severe breathing difficulties and head injuries, while the cyclist was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Both people involved in the accident were seriously injured and the property damage amounts to around 600 euros, as erlensee-aktuell.com reports.

The increasing accident rate

These incidents are in the context of a worrying development: According to the Federal Statistical Office, the number of e-scooter accidents resulting in personal injury rose by 14.1% to 9,425 accidents in 2023. The number of fatalities even doubled from 11 to 22. What is particularly striking is that almost 83% of those injured were riding an e-scooter, including 21 of the 22 fatalities. The most common causes are incorrect road use and the influence of alcohol. At 41.6%, many of the drivers affected were under 25 years old. These alarming statistics show that e-scooters are not only a popular means of transportation, but also pose significant risks, as [destatis.de](https://www.destatis.de/DE/Presse/Press Releases/2024/07/PD24_N037_462.html) states.

It is clear that both e-scooter users and other road users need to be more careful to avoid such accidents. The number of accidents illustrates the need for education and preventative measures. The road traffic regulations not only require the use of cycle paths, but also compliance with speed limits and alcohol bans for e-scooter drivers. These regulations are not only mandatory, but should also be seen as a protection for all road users.
