On-site cinema: Stiller” and Then life happens” in Bischofsheim!

Things will get exciting in the tranquil community of Bischofsheim on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The “Cinema on Site” event series in the community center brings two films to the screen, including the eagerly awaited film adaptation of the classic “Stiller”. The performance begins at 5:30 p.m. with the psychological drama, which stars none other than Albrecht Schuch.

The story of “Stiller” is based on the famous 1954 novel by Max Frisch and provides captivating entertainment. The protagonist, mistaken for the missing sculptor Anatol Stiller, claims he is James Larkin White. This drama about identity, self-perception and the perception of others comes to life under the direction of Stefan Haupt. The plot is illuminated through flashbacks that show the relationship between Stiller and his wife Julika, played by Paula Beer.

Insight into “Stiller”

The film, which will be released in Germany on October 30, 2025, has already caused a stir in Switzerland, where it premiered on October 16, 2023. The action takes place in the 1950s and not only addresses questions of identity, but also the challenges of interpersonal relationships. The adventurous plot moves between black and white flashbacks and colored scenes from the present and has been compressed to a length of 99 minutes in order to increase the tension surrounding the main character.

With a powerful soundtrack by David Hohl and Richard Ruzicka, “Stiller” remains a thought-provoking cinematic experience. There was an impressive response to the number of viewers in German cinemas, with over 102,000 visitors. This speaks to the relevance and the numerous questions raised by the story, such as the search for one's own identity.

And what is behind “Then life happens”?

For those who perhaps don't quite appeal to the psychological drama, there is also a second film screening at 8:00 p.m.: "Then Life Happens." The focus here is on Ulrich Tukur and Anke Engelke as an older couple whose communication problems are put to the test after many years together. The amusing and unexpected twists and turns that occur in their everyday lives make this film the perfect addition to this evening's program.

As usual, the gates open 30 minutes before the start of the first performance and tickets are available at the box office for €8. Anyone planning to spend the evening at the cinema can expect a varied and entertaining film evening - in which not only the great light show, but also the questions of identity and self-perception come to life on the screen.
