Nidderau mourns the loss of CDU veteran Helmut Weider (94) – a legacy of the city
A great loss for local politics in Nidderau: Helmut Weider, a committed and long-standing local politician for the CDU, died on June 27, 2025 at the age of 94 after a short, serious illness. The district chairman of the CDU Main-Kinzig, Max Schad, and the chairman of the CDU Nidderau, Otmar Wörner, spoke in a moving obituary and paid tribute to the deceased for his lifelong commitment to local politics. Particularly noteworthy is Weider's role as a founding member of the CDU Ostheim since 1970, which shaped him as an indispensable part of the political landscape. Vorsprung Online reports that Weider was active in the CDU for over five decades and held numerous positions, including district council member, board member and treasurer of the CDU Main-Kinzig.
Weider leaves behind a considerable legacy: from 1984 to 1990 he was a full-time city councilor in Nidderau. During his term in office, he shaped important municipal developments, such as the Nidderbad and the Nidderau Community Foundation, as well as the town twinning with Gehren. He also provided impetus in his role as chairman of the district farmers' association, of which he became honorary chairman. On a social level, Weider was also involved as a volunteer judge and in many Nidderau clubs. His services were recognized last year with the Alfred Dregger Medal, the CDU Hesse's highest award, and he was to be awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Nidderau posthumously, as OP Online reported.
A life for the community and agriculture
Helmut Weider was born in Windecken in 1930 and ran the Weiderhof in Ostheim, which today serves as a community center. With an area of 50 hectares and a chairmanship of the district farmers' association for over 23 years, he was deeply rooted in agriculture. He was also managing director of a subsidiary of the Hessian Farmers' Association and was involved in the board of the Federal Association of Agricultural Health Insurance Funds. His life's work includes more than 60 awards, certificates of honor and medals of merit, which underlines the appreciation of his work.
The effects of the municipal decisions that Weider helped shape over the years can still be felt today. In local politics, where challenges must be addressed quickly, the need to make better use of existing potential remains a central issue. Particularly in view of the pressure from social and infrastructural challenges, the question remains as to how municipalities can react agilely to changes. The Federal Agency for Civic Education emphasizes that municipal decisions often have to be made within a strained financial framework, which makes Weider's commitment all the more remarkable.
The CDU Nidderau and the entire CDU Main-Kinzig express their sincere condolences to the relatives. Helmut Weider will be remembered not only as a passionate politician, but also as a person and friend. His work and his visions have shaped Nidderau and will continue to do so.
