The city of Gelnhausen is defending itself against the 'concrete monster' of the railway!
In the last few weeks, a large Deutsche Bahn construction project has caused heated discussions in Gelnhausen. The plans for a new bridge from the Haitz stop in the direction of Höchst as part of the new Gelnhausen-Fulda line are not only arousing the excitement of local residents, but also the mistrust of many citizens who consider the effects of this “monster bridge” to be significant.
Citizens for Gelnhausen (BG) are not happy about the proposed construction projects. They fear that the Kinzigtal will be severely affected by the planned bridge, which will be over 230 meters long and flanked by dams, ramps and soundproof walls up to six meters high. City councilor Lydia Naunheim expresses sharp criticism of the plans and complains that no lessons have been learned from the mistakes of the controversial Omega Bridge, which has already generated extensive resistance. The BG parliamentary group leader Marion Röder calls for a review of the plans and advocates real citizen participation. “We need public insight into all variants, because the current plans are neither good for the environment nor for the residents,” said Röder.
Claims and objections
The citizens' group has formulated clear demands: They are calling for the avoidance of another large bridge in the Gelnhausen urban area and for the plans in Haitz to be scaled down. The fact that protected areas with a high protection status are to be built over also causes a great deal of incomprehension within the population. Therefore, all those affected are called upon to do so byJanuary 19, 2025to raise objections to the plans. Further information on submission can be found on the Bürger für Gelnhausen website, where the documents required for this are also provided.
Deutsche Bahn has onNovember 6thAn information event has been scheduled in the Haitz multi-purpose hall, where citizens have the opportunity to find out more on site and talk to the railway contact persons. Away6 p.mThe materials can be viewed before ordering7 p.mthe actual event begins. It remains to be seen whether the railway will respond to citizens' concerns or whether resistance will continue to be ignored, as was the case with over 2,300 protests against the Omega Bridge.
Residents are challenged to raise their voices and actively participate in the discussion. If you would like to participate in an objection, you should take care of the necessary documents in good time and not miss the deadline.
