Main-Taunus-Kreis sets an example for climate justice in Fair Week

The Main-Taunus district is once again taking part in the nationwide “Fair Week” this year, which will take place from September 12th to 26th, 2025. Under the motto “Trade fairly – experience diversity”, the communities and administration have done a lot to raise awareness of fair trade practices and global connections. The Fairtrade Steering Group will participate with various actions and information stands to show citizens how they can actively contribute to climate protection and fairer working conditions. [mtk.org] reports that the Main-Taunus district has been recognized as a Fairtrade district since 2018.

Fair Week continues this year with a strong focus on climate protection. District councilor Madlen Overdick underlined the urgency of the issue and pointed out the effects of climate change: heat, drought and storms not only affect our region, but also many people in countries in the Global South, whose existence is threatened and are often forced to leave their homes. This becomes the central message of Fair Week, which also draws attention to the connection between fair trade practices and the challenges of climate change. [taunus-nachrichten.de] adds that during this time the topic of “more climate justice” is also being loudly demanded in the world shops and schools in the district.

Diverse activities in the Main-Taunus district

Particularly noteworthy is the exhibition that will take place in the district office from September 15th to 19th. There, those interested can get to know the sustainability goals and find out how they too can work for a fairer world. On September 21st, the FairTrade steering group will also have an information stand at the apple market in Flörsheim-Weilbach to talk to citizens and give practical tips on how everyone can get involved.

For anyone who would like to find out more information, an overview of all the offers and promotions is available on the Main-Taunus-Kreis website: www.mtk.org/fairtrade. In addition, further information can be requested from the district's energy competence center on 06192 201-1219.

The official participation of many cities and municipalities, including Hofheim, Bad Soden, Eschborn, Schwalbach, Eppstein, Kelkheim, Flörsheim, Hattersheim and Hochheim, shows the shared commitment to fair and sustainable developments in the Main-Taunus district. Even though Fair Week officially lasts until September 26th, further actions will take place until September 29th to raise public awareness of the issue of climate protection and fairness. With a good hand and a lot of commitment, the circle can make an important contribution to global justice.
