Homeowners are free to choose which provider they want to sign a contract with for their fiber optic connection. A typical example is Andreas Eckhardt, who chose OXG but has been waiting for the connection ever since. A contracted company has not yet been able to successfully install the connection, which has led to irritation. While OXG has stressed that technical challenges are causing delays on some roads, affected customers can remain hopeful. The provider assures that all households connected to the fiber optic network will actually benefit.
Fiber optic expansion with challenges
A representative from Deutsche Telekom brought Eckhardt the information about Telekom's parallel fiber optic network, which is being expanded under its own economic responsibility without public money. Telekom plans to implement the first home connections in the first quarter of 2026. The entire expansion is expected to be completed by August 2026, further increasing curiosity and expectations among consumers.
Anyone who signs a preliminary contract for the fiber optic connection now will receive a free initial installation. Of course, the consideration is a telecommunications contract, which usually has to run for a period of two years - starting from the order confirmation. An important point: There is a 14-day right of withdrawal for contracts concluded at the front door, online or by telephone. This regulation sheds some light on the jungle of contractual conditions and helps consumers make informed decisions.
