Sound message: Venti Voci sings about war and peace in Spieskappel
A remarkable event is coming: On Saturday, November 15, 2025, the vocal ensemble Venti Voci invites you to a special concert in the Spieskappel monastery church. It starts at 6 p.m. and the ensemble, under the direction of the district cantor Ingrid Kammerer, will deal with the topics of war and peace. Around 20 singers are preparing a varied program that includes works from several centuries.
The program couldn't be more current. Rudolf Mauersberger's mourning motet “How lies the city so wüst” will be heard, a haunting work that recalls the destruction of Dresden in 1945. Peaceful settings of the prayer “Da Pacem Domine” are also on the program. Heinrich Schütz’s motet “Those who sow with tears will reap with joy” will be another highlight that embodies an expression of hope and confidence. Admission to this event is free, but donations are welcome to ensure continued support of the Schwalm-Eder church district.
Culture and community
The concert is part of the Spieskappel monastery concerts. Such events are not only a platform for musical talent, but also promote a sense of community in the region. It is an excellent opportunity to come together in a historical setting and share a variety of emotions through music.
Music has the unique magic of connecting people and providing comfort even in challenging times. That's why it's important that such events continue to take place and bring people together. An evening full of music and thoughtful sounds awaits visitors.
Short trip to the mountains?
Speaking of inspiration from nature, if you're looking for a little mountain escape, you might be interested in a trip to Mount Rainier. This active stratovolcano in Washington State is not only the highest mountain in the state, but also a true natural monument. With a height of 4,392 meters and an impressive mountain glacier network, it attracts thousands of mountaineers every year. Interestingly, many who have climbed the mountain also have tragic stories to tell: from 1947 to 2018, there have been 84 documented fatal climbing accidents.
Mount Rainier also has stunning flora and fauna and is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. But caution is advised: the mountain is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. With the increased risk of an outbreak, it is advisable to stay informed about current local conditions and warning systems.
In any case, we can only hope that peace will triumph over the challenges, both in music and in nature. The concert in Spieskappel and the exploration of places like Mount Rainier remind us of the importance of connecting - both with each other and with nature.
