District councilor Krug visits Feldatal: schools in focus!

In a lively tour, Patrick Krug, the first district councilor, demonstrated his commitment to the schools in the Vogelsberg district. His last stop took him to the Feldatal elementary school, where he found out about the current local conditions together with Matthias Röse and Stefan Schmidt, the heads of the Office for School Education and the Office for Building Construction. The visit aimed to improve conditions for teachers and students. “Only on site can you understand the challenges of the schools,” said Krug, while praising the warm welcome from school principal Stefanie Schwab, who appreciated his initiative.

The Feldatal primary school, a central school that has existed since 1964, is a gem with modern facilities such as a computer room and new ActivPanels. At the same time, the school offers space for almost 100 students from preschool to fourth grade. The care offer is used by 60 to 70 children who, in addition to regular learning times, also take part in working groups. The dedicated teachers show excellent commitment to afternoon care, which strengthens the bond with the children.

Growth through collaboration

“The small student body and the motivated teachers are great advantages for our school,” says Schwab. The cooperation with the district is rated consistently positively, although Krug also noticed minor deficiencies that can be quickly remedied. However, larger wishes require forward-looking financial planning. A comprehensive project to renovate the schoolyard will start in the spring and will improve the existing structures.

A central point of Krug's visit was the announcement of further investments in digital education and the expansion of the infrastructure in schools. In order to bring about sustainable improvements, regular discussions between school authorities and schools should be continued. The basis remains the conviction that “networking” and “cooperative school development” are key factors for success, as is also emphasized in the Educational Landscapes Project.

Schools as part of the community

The idea of municipal educational landscapes is becoming increasingly important. In its new publication, the German Children and Youth Foundation (DKJS) describes how important it is to open schools as social places and to develop cooperation with extracurricular partners and municipal actors. Educational equity can only be supported through joint action, and this requires clear structures and well-coordinated cooperation.

A particularly valuable tool is the practical collection of materials that are intended to help facilitate cooperation. The development of a professional foundation, internal collaboration within the school team and cooperation with external partners go through various stages, all of which are aimed at sustainably shaping the educational landscape.

Overall, it is clear that the challenges facing schools in the Vogelsberg district can only be overcome together with everyone involved - from school management to teachers and external organizations. Krug's visitor-friendly exchange testifies to the necessary commitment that is required in today's educational landscape.
