VulkanLiving Room: A successful culinary project in Vogelsberg!

In the middle of the picturesque landscape of the Vogelsberg there is a place where enjoyment and regionality go hand in hand. Jürgen Schwab and Olympia Borys, a creative gastronomy couple, have managed to transform the historic Lenzenhof building in Schotten into a cozy café and restaurant with its own coffee roastery, the “VulkanWohnzimmer”, since 2019. They have been running this gourmet place for seven years now, which is known not only for its lovingly prepared food, but also for its commitment to sustainability and quality. In 2019, they took over the Lenzenhof, which has stood on Vogelsbergstrasse in Schotten since 1720, and invested four months in a comprehensive renovation before opening their doors. The “VulkanWohnzimmer” offers space for around 40 guests indoors and has just as many seats in the inviting beer garden, making it a perfect place for social gatherings.

Regionality and sustainability in focus

At the heart of the concept are the regional ingredients that Schwab and Borys use for their dishes. They source meat from organic farmers in the area and fruit and vegetables also come from local part-time farmers. “We rely on handcraft and quality,” emphasizes the couple, which is also highly recognized by their clientele. The coffee that is prepared in the affiliated roastery comes directly from a partner in Giessen who works closely with Ethiopian farmers to offer fairly traded and organically grown coffee.
