Bergwacht Schotten celebrates a successful festival – support for new ATV!

In Cologne there are always events that not only entertain, but also serve a good cause. The traditional mountain festival took place on September 10, 2025 Scottish mountain rescue service at the Hoherodskopf. In beautiful late summer weather, visitors flocked to the festival grounds to not only enjoy the culinary delicacies, but also to support the organization that has been ensuring safety in difficult terrain for over 30 years.

The impressive goal of the festival was to acquire and equip a new emergency vehicle. An ATV (quad), which was specially designed for difficult terrain, had already been purchased, but the complete equipment was still missing to be able to use it fully. How the FNP reports, the old ATV was a total economic loss in a traffic accident, so the mountain rescue service urgently needs support in order to be prepared for future operations.

A successful event for a good cause

The festival was organized by the Schotten Mountain Rescue Association, part of the German Red Cross, organized. With a lot of voluntary commitment and numerous volunteers, it was a relaxed event that was very well received. The high number of visitors showed that interest in the work of the mountain rescue service remains unbroken. In addition, income from the sale of sausages, steaks, cakes, coffee and cool drinks helped replenish the club's treasury, which is necessary to support the mountain rescue service's year-round work.

What was particularly pleasing was that the sausages were already sold out in the morning and the organizers were very satisfied with sales. At the beginning of the celebrations, Pastor Frank Eckhardt held a service that gave the festival a solemn setting. Otfried Würtz, co-founder of the support association, was enthusiastic about the success of the festival and was optimistic about the challenges ahead.

Strong roots in the region

The Scottish mountain rescue service has become firmly established in the region. Your tasks include not only rescue and assistance services for accident victims, but also the medical security of events. These services are paid and contribute to the refinancing of the organization. Funding, voluntary donations and volunteer work create the necessary financial basis to maintain comprehensive training and the necessary equipment.

This mountain rescue service, organized by the German Red Cross and founded in Munich in 1920, now has over 14,500 members who put their heart and soul into the mountain rescue service and nature conservation. The challenges that arise in difficult terrain are great, but with the support of citizens, the important work will continue in the future.
