Hessentag 2025: Bad Vilbel celebrates with big highlights and stars!
Today, June 13, 2025, the 62nd Hessentag began with a grandiose ceremony in Bad Vilbel. At 1:42 p.m. the official starting signal was given by none other than the Hessian Prime Minister Boris Rhein in the picturesque water castle. The area was well attended and offered a colorful mix of citizens, political guests and guests of honor who celebrated the start of this important event together. FNP reports that the celebrations opened with performing groups such as the trio “Colourful on Stilts” and the Burgfestspiele band.
Preparations for Hessentag have been underway for a long time. Bad Vilbel's city council unanimously passed the decision to apply on March 28, 2017, and the city has prepared with great commitment for these ten days of celebrations. This year's motto “We bring Hesse to the stage” reflects the spirit of the festival, which traditionally celebrates local ties and culture. One of the highlights is the performance of René Di Rienzo, who sang the official Hessentag song “Bei uns in Hessen” together with a children's choir.
A celebration for everyone
Hessentag, the oldest and largest state festival in Germany, lasts ten days and features numerous events such as concerts, theater performances and parties. Bad Vilbel has established itself as the heart of these festivities. The official program shows how much the festival promotes identity and community among Hessians and at the same time creates a space for encounters and exchange.
Mayor Sebastian Wysocki described the Hessentag as a “booster for urban development”. He also emphasized the integrative effect of the festival and thanked the many volunteers whose commitment and dedication ensured that the festival ran smoothly. On the official website You can find the various events and offers that invite all interested visitors to get on their feet and join in the celebrations.
Inclusion and accessibility
Particularly noteworthy is the commitment to inclusion and accessibility in Bad Vilbel. Jason Giuranna, known from the br show “Seeing instead of hearing”, has extended a special invitation to deaf visitors. In a video he greets viewers in sign language and asks them to find a sign for “Bad Vilbel”. This is another step towards actively involving everyone in the festivities.
Hessentag is not only a homage to Hessian culture, but also a celebration of volunteerism, which lives through the support of clubs, institutions, police and fire departments. Prime Minister Rhein emphasized the importance of volunteering and thanked the sponsors and participants for their presence. The opening was celebrated with cheerful applause and a shower of confetti, while presenter Yannick Schwander encouraged guests to enjoy the hustle and bustle to the fullest. As the first impressions show, Hessentag promises to be a huge celebration again in 2025.
