This free 50-minute show invites the audience to experience stories in different languages and with intercultural references. The current production "Fatma & Fatoş" addresses the experiences of women who often brave courageously to search for their luck and are the focus of this staging.
The narrative of the migrants
"FATMA & FATOş" is based on the memories of women and addresses great life topics such as home and identity. The desire for contact, especially the difficulties that Fatma has to communicate with her partner - is particularly emphasized - a central element that repeatedly came up in discussions with the women of the Berlin city society. Production combines narrative passages about the realities of life of migrant workers in the 1960s and 1970s with music pieces from the repertoire of the comic opera. The new production of a Turkish song by Nihan Devecioğlu, which impressively captures Fatma's longing for her partner, is particularly touching.
The story not only offers insights into the life of the migrants, but also reflects the social circumstances of the time when Rock’n’Roll sounded in the post -war bars. However, this was done against the background of the challenges that many of these women were confronted with while helping their family remotely. The staging "Fatma & Fatoş" puts these strong women, who have contributed to the German economy for decades, into the limelight and addresses the risks of poverty in old age, since many have not adequately secured their pension. We see how crucial the role of migrants in the characteristics of our today's society, while we learn from their history how important it is to listen and to appreciate the experiences of the past generations.
