VSG Ammerland fights bravely, but loses dramatically against Vikings!

[NWZonline]. Vallstedt Vechelde Vikings competed. Despite the home advantage and initial dominance when VSG led 2-0 in sets, the team ultimately had to admit defeat 2-3. Arne Döpke, who took over the coaching role at short notice, explained that the fourth set in particular was decisive for the defeat. In the course of this set, VSG was unable to score points despite a 19:17 lead and ultimately lost it 23:25. In the decisive fifth set, both teams showed strong effort, but the Ammerlanders ultimately had to admit defeat 12:15.

In addition to the coach, VSG Ammerland also had to do without four regular players. Döpke regretted the failures and appealed to his team to be more courageous in their substitutions. In addition, the ill coach Torsten Busch followed the action via live stream and praised the performance of his interim coach and the team, who stuck together and fought hard despite the adversity.

Fight to stay in the league

In just a few days, on October 25th, VSG Ammerland will be challenged again when they have to compete against TC Eiche Horn Bremen. Everything is still possible for the team this season because VSG is in a relegation battle and the upcoming games will be crucial. A home game against ASC Göttingen, which starts on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the sports hall of the high school in Westerstede, will show who stays in the regional league. The match has become more dramatic as the Vallstedt Vechelde Vikings were able to defeat second-placed TSV Giesen Grizzlys III and ASC Göttingen is now under heavy pressure: only a win can prevent relegation to the top league, which makes the situation even worse for both teams. The VSG will also have to rely on the return of Christian Anders as a setter in this game, as the regular setters Jannis Jargow and Jannik Koenigs were unavailable.

Another interesting fact from the VSG could be the farewell to Simon Adelmann, who is playing his last game and will try out as a coach at SG Ofenerdiek/Ofen next season. Döpke will therefore be required to keep the team spirit high, even if captain Timo Pundt and middle blocker Tom Osterkamp are also not available.

Volleyball in Germany

The enthusiasm for volleyball in Germany, a sport with a long tradition, is constantly growing. According to United Volleys, the German Volleyball Association currently has around 436,000 members, and more than 26,000 new members were recorded in 2024. This shows that volleyball is not only a popular team sport, but also an important part of the German sports landscape. The German Volleyball Bundesliga regularly attracts high numbers of spectators, which underlines this trend reversal. The school competitions are also very popular, with over 100,000 students taking part in the “Youth Training for the Olympics” project.

With a view to the upcoming home game, VSG Ammerland is hoping for loud support from its fans in order to end the last home games with positive results. Since the beginning of the season, despite difficult conditions, the team has proven that they fight with heart and passion for the sport of volleyball.
