A creeping unease hangs over Barßel after a violent incident in a bar on Lange Strasse on the night from Friday to Saturday caused a stir. As the police in Cloppenburg/Vechta report, a 37-year-old man from Saterland was beaten by two unknown perpetrators at around 3:00 a.m. They fled on foot immediately after the attack. But it wasn't just this incident that made headlines in the region. On the same day there was also a shipping accident on the coastal canal. At around 10:31 a.m., a container ship hit a canal bridge with the roof of the driver's cab, leaving parts of the roof hanging on it. The boat driver acted quickly and steered the ship to a parking space so that the water police could investigate the accident. Fortunately, the bridge was removed without any damage and shipping traffic can continue to pass unhindered.
Traffic accidents are increasing
Last but not least, there was also a traffic accident in Friesoythe. At around 11:45 a.m. there was a collision at the junction with Pehmertanger Weg between a car with a trailer, driven by a 28-year-old man from Molbergen, and a car with the right of way, driven by a 70-year-old from Cloppenburg. The reason for the incident was that the older driver was overlooked when entering the B72. Fortunately, everyone involved was uninjured, but the damage to property amounts to around 7,000 euros.
