In the coming weeks it's all about music in Oldenburg: The 36th Bremen Music Festival starts on August 16th and runs until September 6th. Under the artistic direction of Prof. Thomas Albert, visitors can expect a varied program that will delight music lovers with works by Mozart, Vivaldi, Cherubini and Beethoven. The Cloppenburg district has established this tradition since 2018, which District Administrator Johann Wimberg also emphasized during a press conference in the district hall. He highlights the cultural significance of the festival for the Oldenburger Münsterland.

The first concerts take place in different cities. On August 17th at 7:30 p.m. in the Church of Ss. Cosmas and Damian celebrated the opening night in Barßel ​​with the title “Kosmos Mozart”. Here the ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro under the direction of Maxim Emelyanychev will perform the Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor KV 466 as well as two symphonies by Mozart. A highlight: Emelyanychev himself will also be performing as a pianist.

Program highlights and concert locations

The second concert date is on August 20th at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Andreas Church in Cloppenburg, where the focus will be on the composer Antonio Vivaldi. The countertenor Alois Mühlbacher comes into play here, accompanied by Ensemble Pallidor under the direction of Franz Farnberger. The performance of Vivaldi's psalm setting “Nisi Dominus” as well as selected arias is planned.

The festival will be rounded off with a concert on September 3rd at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Vitus Church in Löningen. This evening, the Orchester des Champs-Elysées, conducted by Philippe Herreweghe, will present works by Beethoven and Cherubini, which focus on the Napoleonic era. This makes the music festival in Oldenburg a special kind of musical journey of discovery.
