New pop-up place in Groß Mackenstedt: volleyball and bratwursts!
Something is happening in Groß Mackenstedt! A new pop-up area will soon be opening at the football field, which will not only provide exercise, but also strengthen the community in the districts. Again Weser courier reports, the court will be inaugurated with a volleyball tournament on Friday, August 29th from 4 p.m. Teams can register, and there will be bratwursts and drinks - in the spirit of combining exercise and encounters.
The new pop-up space is complemented by a two by four meter container, which not only offers seating, but also provides play and sports equipment. The initiative is part of a larger project in the municipality of Stuhr, which is financed by the “Future Dreams of Lower Saxony” funding program. Each of the districts will receive 12,000 euros to support temporary public spaces, making a total of 120,000 euros available.
Community and creativity
The aim of these pop-up spaces is to revitalize central places within the districts through creative interventions. The Future spaces in Lower Saxony explain that citizens should actively participate in the flexible design of these places. Through participatory activities and cultural offerings, they have the opportunity to explore and shape the use of public spaces themselves.
Why is this so important? In rural areas, social structures often become fragile because there are no suitable places for meetings. The new pop-up spaces are intended to counteract this and ensure that people can get to know and shape their districts again. The organizational team has been planning for the new location since the beginning of the year, and the first projects were implemented in May and June 2023.
A place for everyone
The container at the football field will remain there until the end of October and then be stored. It is also available to the fire department, who receive a key for it. The municipality of Stuhr is planning a total of seven pop-up places, and such places will also be created in Varrel, Fahrenhorst and Heiligenrode. By the end of 2026, there should be a pop-up space in every district in order to offer citizens a better quality of life and opportunities to meet.
The pop-up places are an excellent example of how space for encounters can be created with a creative approach and little financial outlay. As the Initiative from Berlin shows, spaces can also open up unexpected possibilities and contribute to strengthening social structures. The project in Groß Mackenstedt is also an invitation to everyone to get actively involved and help shape their own place.
