Fan tournament in Meppen: Who will stop the dominance of the heather spirits?
Next Saturday, June 21, 2025, things will be really busy at the SV Hemsen sports grounds in Meppen-Hemsen. The Werder Bremen fan club fan tournament will take place there from 10 a.m. and has become a popular event in recent years. This year, 24 teams are competing against each other, including the defending champions “Grün-Weiße Heidegeister” from Soltau and the hosts “Weser 12 Emsköppe”, who are taking part for the twelfth time. They are looking forward to stopping the heath spirits' winning streak and emerging as winners themselves. Deichstube reports.
The focus is on fun, and the Heidegeister have set themselves the goal of making new friends with other Werder fans in addition to the competition. “We want to finish the preliminary round at least second,” said a fan club representative. New to the field of participants this year are the teams “BFG – Beck’s Bottles Green” and “WFC Ems Crew”. The slogan of the “Haren Greentrotters”, who want to score more points than HSV in the last seven years in the first Bundesliga, also brings smiles to faces.
Format and supporting program
An exciting tournament mode ensures entertainment: The 24 teams are divided into four groups of six. The first four of each group then advance to the round of 16, with the game duration in the preliminary round and knockout phase being ten minutes. The final game, however, will be played over 20 minutes. It is important to emphasize that the focus here is on fun and not just on sporting performance.
On the evening before the event, a meeting of the fan clubs takes place, where not only nine-meter shooting is on the program, but also exuberant celebrations. And there is a new attraction for the little Werder fans this year: an exclusive game for children aged 6 to 10, which will take place on Saturday. The culmination of the event is the closing party on Saturday evening. Spectators can look forward to free entry – a great opportunity to experience fan life up close.
Fans and security
