Thunderstorms and heat: weather chaos expected for Lower Saxony!
The weather situation in Lower Saxony is currently varied and, in addition to an increase in temperature, also brings with it some thunderstorms. As kreiszeitung.de reports, the temperatures have already exceeded the 30 degree mark. Today, on June 25th, the forecast from the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts temperatures of up to 28 degrees in the region, although Bremen will remain a little cooler at 24 degrees.
We are currently experiencing an alternation of showers and thunderstorms that are heating up the atmosphere remarkably. But while the sky is partly relaxed, the weather conditions are becoming increasingly dynamic in the coming days. A friendly start to the day is expected on Thursday, before clouds gather and locally heavy thunderstorms with rain and squalls are expected. The daily maximum will be around 26 degrees, which will make many parts of the country look forward to summer.
Warning for severe weather
A small setback for weather fans is the announcement of strong thunderstorms from Thursday morning, especially in southwest Lower Saxony. According to dwd.de, stormy gusts of up to 80 km/h are possible, accompanied by heavy rain that locally reaches up to 30 l/sqm. The thunderstorms spread rapidly northeastward and can bring both hail and a lot of precipitation. A look outside could hardly be safe from surprises.
From Friday the temperatures will drop again to 21 to 25 degrees and the weather will be mostly cloudy with rain, which could dampen the anticipation of summer a bit. But don't worry, the thermometer is expected to rise again at the weekend and swimming pools and outdoor pools can look forward to greater influx. From Monday we can expect temperatures well over 30 degrees, which makes for perfect bathing weather, especially in the coastal regions.
Climate change in focus
The current weather phenomena are in the context of advancing climate change, which does not leave Lower Saxony unaffected. According to the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Environment, temperatures have risen by 1.7 degrees since 1881, and that has an impact on different areas of life. For example, there is an increase in hot and summer days and a decrease in frost and ice days. The challenge is clear: Lower Saxony's adaptation strategies to the climate impacts are needed and the Lower Saxony Competence Center for Climate Change (NIKO) offers guidance and support here.
In summary, it can be said that the weather in Lower Saxony remains exciting, even if the storm front can thwart our planning games. Be prepared and enjoy the upcoming swimming weather as awareness of climate changes continues to grow.
