BG Göttingen brings top scorer Zach Jackson from England!
The basketball scene in Göttingen is getting a breath of fresh air! Zach Jackson, the dynamic combo guard, is moving from the Leicester Riders, the English champions, to BG Göttingen. This commitment not only comes at the right time, but also fulfills the hopes of coach Fabian Strauß, who is pleased with the quick agreement. Equipped with a one-year contract, the 27-year-old, born on August 13, 1997, is 1.98 meters tall and weighs 88 kg. Jackson has established himself as the second-best scorer in the British Super League, scoring an impressive 17.8 points per game, as HNA reports.
Jackson played for the Leicester Riders between 2020 and 2023 and was able to not only celebrate individual successes during this time, but also win important titles. Together with his teammate Geno Crandall, he won the British double in 2022 - the championship and the cup. In the final game against the Newcastle Eagles, Jackson showed his class by recording 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, highlighting his versatility and impact on the game. His other statistics are also impressive: In addition to his 17.8 points per game, he averaged 5.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists, with an accurate three-point rate of 47%.
The new squad from BG Göttingen
However, the planning at BG Göttingen has not yet been completed. The club would like to bring a total of four import players into the team next season in order to strengthen the collective. The next planned import is a point guard, followed by an athletic small forward and an inside big man. In addition to Jackson, the current squad planning also includes seven German players: Julius Böhmer, Hendrik Drescher, Daniel Kirchner, Robin Lodders, Janis Jünemann, Mathis Mönninghoff and Lennart Schultz. This mix of talent and experience could be the key to success next season.
Zach Jackson's basketball journey began at the University of Nebraska with the Omaha Mavericks before further stints in Japan with Shanan United and Ukraine with Kharkivski Sokoly. His will and commitment are evident, and after his time with the Leicester Riders he is now ready to set new standards in Göttingen and inspire the spectators.
The first step towards a successful season has been taken, and with Jackson in the team the club has the chance to make a big impression. Now we can only hope that he can build on his previous achievements and that the Göttingen basketball fans will not be disappointed!
