Night of Culture 2025: Göttingen celebrates a tropical festival atmosphere!

On June 15, 2025, the “Night of Culture” took place in Göttingen, which once again attracted thousands of visitors to the city center. As HNA reports, the thermometer rose to a pleasant 30 degrees and gave the event the flair of a “tropical night”.

The event offered a broad program on 13 stages and over 31 other locations, ranging from music and theater to visual art and literature. Petra Aschenbach, Managing Director of Göttingen Marketing, was enthusiastic about the creativity and liveliness of the city. A highlight was the musical performance, which began in the afternoon, with South American sounds such as salsa and bachata in front of St. John's Church.

Musical offer and mood

Visitors could look forward to a chilled atmosphere in front of the Nörgelbuff stage, where singer-songwriters performed their best pieces. DJ Sa.Sy.Sa created an exuberant atmosphere in front of the Nikolaikirche and motivated people to dance. Luca Noel from Mannheim received a lot of applause on the big stage at the weekly market, while the “Tora Bora Allstars” performed reggae, ragga and ska from 9:30 p.m.

Also worth mentioning is the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra (GSO), which performed to a sold-out crowd at 8 p.m. A big compliment also goes to the organizers, who closed the inner city ring road to traffic from 2 p.m. and rerouted the buses to give guests undisturbed access. However, there was also criticism from some visitors because the music ended at 11 p.m.

Diverse programs

The program featured various events, including a “Special Play Hour” on the Nörgelbuff stage from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., which featured acoustic guitars and electric piano. Maria, Dietmar Goretzki and Panoora performed there, among others. A ukulele jam session was also held at Nikolaikirchhof, to which all guests were invited to bring their own ukuleles.

The event, which took place at the Nikolaikirchhof, also included performances by Roland Wander & Dominik Pytka, who put everyone in a good mood with catchy pop and humorous lyrics. At 6 p.m. Frank Schöpke and Oskar Hahn fused jazz with hip-hop, while Tscharällo impressed with powerful rap from 7:30 p.m. The second set by DJ Sa.Sy.Sa at 9 p.m. also brought Afro, house and dance vibes to the stage, which encouraged the crowd to celebrate.

Overall, the “Night of Culture” is an integral part of the Göttingen event calendar and has replaced the traditional old town festival. If you are looking forward to the next edition, you should keep an eye on the official website to stay informed about upcoming events.
