Three serious motorcycle accidents shock the Harz – driver seriously injured!
The weekend took a dramatic turn for motorcyclists in the Goslar district. Within just 48 hours, three serious accidents occurred, which placed great demands on both the emergency services and the drivers involved. What is particularly worrying is the development of accident numbers in recent years, which, according to an analysis by the Federal Highway Research Institute, continues to show signs of change.
The first accident occurred on Friday at 4:35 p.m. on the B4 between Braunlage and Hohegeiß. A 22-year-old rider lost control of his KTM in a right-hand bend. The motorcycle hit the guard rail and fell into the ditch. The seriously injured driver was taken to hospital in a rescue helicopter. The material damage amounts to around 5,500 euros, of which 500 euros will be incurred for the guardrail, informs regionalheute.de.
Serious falls and their causes
The second incident occurred on Saturday around 1:35 p.m., also on the B4, but between Braunlage and Königskrug. A 48-year-old Suzuki rider swayed and lost control, causing the motorcycle to leave the road and crash into the ditch. This driver also suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to hospital. The damage to the motorcycle was estimated at a total of 5,000 euros, and a towing service was required, according to reporting by harz.news.
The third serious accident occurred at the entrance to Braunlage on Sunday at 11 a.m. A 39-year-old driver left the road in a sharp left bend due to excessive speed. He hit a sign and fell into a parking lot. Here too, the driver sustained serious injuries and was immediately taken to hospital. The damage to the motorcycle amounts to around 5,000 euros, while the damage to the sign amounts to 800 euros, reports regionalheute.de.
A look at the accident numbers
Statistics show that the number of motorcycle accidents resulting in personal injuries in Germany is around 28,000 every year. Surprisingly, around 90% of those injured are motorcycle users themselves, which highlights the dangers of this mode of transport. The number of motorcyclists killed fell slightly by 11% to 579 in 2017, but the number of seriously injured motorcycle users rose by 1% to 9,555. This leaves more than just thoughts about safety on the roads.
The weekend in Goslar clearly shows that despite a downward trend in most accident numbers, the severity of injuries cannot be neglected. It remains to be seen what measures can be taken to increase safety for motorcyclists and prevent accidents of this type in the future.
