Speed offenders beware: Osnabrück police focus on safety!
The Europe-wide ROADPOL inspection week took place from August 4th to 10th, 2025 with the motto “Take off the gas – for more safety on our roads!” instead of. The North Rhine-Westphalia police, specifically the Osnabrück police department, were actively involved and carried out extensive speed checks. During this period, a total of 21,080 vehicles were checked across the entire management area, which includes the East Frisian Islands up to the Teutoburg Forest. In the balancing compilation, 1,042 speeding violations were identified. A particularly noticeable violation occurred by a Mercedes driver in the Emsland/County of Bentheim police station.
“Speeding is one of the main causes of traffic accidents,” emphasized Malte Hagspihl, press spokesman for the Osnabrück Police Department. During this inspection week, the police not only wanted to expose speed offenders, but above all to raise awareness of the dangers of excessive speed. This is particularly important in view of the current traffic accident statistics, which show that increased measures to increase traffic safety are absolutely necessary.
European police network ROADPOL
ROADPOL, the European traffic police network, aims to reduce the number of traffic accidents and their victims. This network is supported by various organizations, including the EU. Loud Securetec EU Transport Commissioner Adina Valean is working with ROADPOL to achieve the ambitious goal of zero traffic deaths and injuries by 2050. Mika Häkkinen, the former racing driver, is an ambassador for ROADPOL and calls for mindfulness in road traffic.
Heinz-Albert Stumpen, Secretary General of ROADPOL, highlights the central role of traffic police, which is essential to protect citizens and communities. Greater traffic safety requires increased controls and improved police equipment to carry out traffic surveillance efficiently.
Raising awareness among road users
But the responsibility for safe driving does not just lie with the police. “We appeal to all road users to drive with foresight and adhere to the speed limits,” added a spokesman for the Southeast Hesse Police Headquarters, which also took part in the ROADPOL inspection week. This campaign clearly shows how important it is to raise awareness of the dangers of fast driving and to reduce the number of serious traffic accidents.
Last week's activities are part of a year-round commitment to improving road safety. Regular checks are not just one-off events, but rather a permanent part of traffic monitoring throughout Germany. The aim of these initiatives is to create safer roads for all road users.
