Emotional reunion: mother with cancer fulfills zoo dream

There are moments in life that make even the hardest times more bearable - moments that create memories you will never forget. This is what happened at the Hanover Adventure Zoo when Sabrina, a mother of four children, was able to spend an unforgettable day with her family. Despite her most serious cancer, which requires her to be cared for in a hospice, spending time with her loved ones was of utmost importance to her. The Wünschewagen Niedersachsen made this excursion possible and ensured that the day was a special experience.

Accompanied by a total of 20 people, including her children, Sabrina went on an excursion that was a ray of hope in dark times for her and her family. Two volunteers accompanied the group to ensure everything ran smoothly. Together they strengthened themselves with nuggets, while a chimpanzee sat down not far from them and created an emotional moment. The family enjoyed a boat trip on the Zambezi and admired the polar bears in Youkonbay - all while Sabrina, despite the pain she endured, left everything else behind and enjoyed the moment to the fullest.

A long way back

There was also a particularly moving fate to be experienced at Hannover Zoo: a former zookeeper who completed her training at the zoo in the 1970s returned despite her serious cancer. Her visit was also made possible by the Wünschewagen Niedersachsen. She was brought to the zoo on a stretcher, accompanied by her sister and her partner.

As she strolled through the zoo and noticed the changes since her training, she couldn't hide her fascination with the lions and gorillas. Despite the severe pain, the volunteer team attended to her needs and ensured she took regular breaks. It was a day full of memories and a parting gift in the form of a plush lion that will always remind her of this special day.

Make a difference together

These stories clearly show how important it is to provide support in difficult times. The Wünschewagen Niedersachsen works closely with helpers to fulfill such heartfelt wishes and to offer emotional support. Donations are also very important because they make it possible to create these valuable experiences. There is now a simplified way for donors to claim their donations for tax purposes: booking confirmations from the bank are sufficient instead of donation receipts, which makes the process easier for many.

These emotional stories reflect the appreciation for family and shared experiences, especially in challenging periods of life. Hannover Zoo will always hold a special place in Sabrina and the former zookeeper's hearts.
