Something is happening in the Friedrich Ebert Stadium! VfV 06 Hildesheim has started building a modern LED floodlight system. This measure is not only a technical upgrade, but also a response to the requirements of the North German Football Association. From autumn 2023, the first home games are scheduled to take place under floodlights, which will greatly support the club's return to the regional league, which is a prerequisite for the license to be granted. Without the new lighting system, the club would have to play its regional league home games elsewhere.
The new floodlight system will illuminate the stadium with a height of 21 meters and a light intensity of 400 lux. For comparison: In city squares it is just 70 lux. In addition to the playing field, the entrances as well as the standing and seating areas will also be illuminated, which will significantly improve the spectator experience. The complex civil engineering work is scheduled to be completed by the start of the season on August 10, 2023, and the entire system will be completed by September 2023 at the latest. A celebratory opening is planned for autumn 2023, taking fan culture to a new level.
Financial support and crowdfunding
But the implementation of this great project requires a lot of financial resources. VfV 06 Hildesheim receives support from the city of Hildesheim, the EVI energy supply and the state sports association. In order to cover the remaining costs, which amount to around 250,000 euros, the club is planning a crowdfunding campaign. This was announced in advance of the building permit, which was applied for on December 22nd.
The importance of this measure has also convinced local political leaders. Mayor Ingo Meyer and EVI managing director Mustafa Sancar support the project, while district sports association chairman Frank Wodsack sees the project as a great opportunity for competitive football sports in the region.
