Construction work in Peine: Bortfelder Straße completely closed from July 21st!
In Peine, more precisely in Bortfeld, important road construction work will take place from July 21, 2025, which will result in a complete closure of Bortfelder Straße (L475). This measure is used to create a house connection, as reported by regionalheute.de. The work, which is expected to last until July 25, is necessary because the winding course of the road and the intersection of a gas pipeline require additional safety precautions.
In order not to bring traffic to a standstill during construction work, a diversion route will be set up. Traffic from the direction of Wedtlenstedt is routed via the K59 to Lamme, from where it continues via the K80 (Kanzlerfeld) to Watenbüttel. Finally, the diversion takes place via the L611 to Völkenrode to the L475 at the roundabout between Wendeburg and Bortfeld. Of course, this redirection also applies in the opposite direction.
Top layer renovations in Peine
In addition to these construction measures, the city of Peine will start extensive surface layer renovations in the core city and the surrounding towns in the 13th calendar week of 2025, i.e. from March 24th. During the renovation work, the affected road sections must be completely closed, with signposted diversions put in place. A total of around 42,000 square meters of surface layers are affected. The order volume for these renovations is around 1,700,000 euros. Particularly worth mentioning is the surface layer renovation of Burgdorfer Straße in Vöhrum, which is to be carried out mainly on the long weekend between April 10th and 14th, with logistics and mixing equipment having to be provided, as peine.de informs.
Current trends in road construction
In the context of these road construction measures, it is interesting to look at how road construction is developing in Germany. According to Statista, the German federal highway network comprised around 13,200 kilometers of federal highways in 2023. The development of this infrastructure remains crucial, as both secondary venues and main arteries need to be developed. Although sales in road construction have increased in recent years, there was a decline of almost two billion euros in 2023 compared to previous years.
Despite these challenges, road construction remains the most important civil engineering sector in Germany with more than 80,000 employees. In addition, the profession of road builder will be the most popular apprenticeship in civil engineering in 2023, which could indicate a healthy future for the sector. Investments will also go into the expansion of federal highways, which were estimated at around 8.5 billion euros in 2023 and are expected to increase to almost 9.8 billion euros by 2028.
The upcoming construction work in Peine is a clear indication that continuous investments in infrastructure are not only necessary but also sensible to ensure safe and efficient mobility in the district.
