Clarification for sewer renovation: Kantweg remains accessible to residents!

In the coming months, it will be turbulent in Uelzen, especially in the Kantweg, where the renovation of the rain and dirty water sewage system goes into the next phase. The work that begins today, on October 1, 2025, were initiated on behalf of the wastewater association and the Hanseatic city of Uelzen. City spokeswoman Ute Krüger emphasized that an originally planned full closure of the Kantweg for car traffic is not correct by the beginning of 2026 and that residents will continue to have access to their land. This clarification is likely to facilitate many concerned residents who had previously written an open letter to the city administration to express their concerns. According to AZ-Online, access to the building will be possible at any time, which applies particularly in weekly and on weekends.

The construction work starts at the confluence with the B71 and, for various reasons, cannot avoid causing some restrictions on access. The construction company initially proposed a full closure to use the Kantweg as a storage area for building materials. Many residents were concerned about the possible disability of everyday life through the construction site. But the city administration took the concerns seriously and made it clear that the garbage disposal is secured at all times and that the access will not be completely lost.

More construction sites in the urban area

However, the renovation in the Kantweg is not the only construction site that currently affects Uelzen. Extensive work is also underway in other areas of the city center. From October 25th, the area of the railway underpasses Bahnhofstrasse and Sternstraße will be closed in the long term, as preparatory measures for new railway underpasses by Deutsche Bahn are pending, such as [Hansestadt-Uelzen] (https://www.hansestadt-uelzen.de/home/global/container- page/aktuelle-beast-im-ueberblick.aspx). The work includes the laying of supply lines for electricity, water and gas as well as the final work on the channels in Bahnhofstrasse, which has been accessible again since October 20.

There are also sewer work in the Schillerstraße/Kaiserstrasse intersection, which should last until the end of April, October 1st. These measures lead to changes in city bus traffic, including diversions for several lines, such as line 71 and line 4. News are announced at the stops and online. This shows that the city administration also tries to keep the affected citizens up to date and offer alternatives, while the construction work is progressing, such as Uelzen-TV.

All in all, a lot will happen in Uelzen in the coming months. The city administration asks to show understanding and patience during the construction phase and assures that the traffic situation is regularly checked in order to be able to react at any time. The residents and all road users are invited to find out about the progress and to follow the local news in order not to miss any important information.
