Merz' survey disaster: AfD overtakes Union and Chancellor in crisis!

The political situation in Germany is currently in a rather gloomy light. Chancellor Friedrich Merz of the CDU, who has been in office for almost 100 days, is struggling with worryingly weak poll numbers. A recent survey showed that dissatisfaction with Merz's work is 67 percent, while only 29 percent of those surveyed are satisfied with him. This is the worst result for a chancellor since the election in May AZ reported.

In the big political drama, the CDU/CSU has also lost support and is now behind the AfD. According to the survey carried out by Forsa on behalf of RTL/ntv, the Union only achieved 24 percent, which corresponds to a decline of one percent. In contrast, the AfD recorded an increase from one percent to 26 percent. As far as the other parties are concerned, the SPD remains at 13 percent and the Greens gain slightly, also at 13 percent.

Merz’s work in focus

Chancellor Merz is not only struggling with the general dissatisfaction of citizens, but also with dwindling trust. Only 26 percent of those surveyed believe that he is a good crisis manager, while 56 percent think the opposite. According to the survey, Merz's communication style is perceived as unconvincing by 61 percent, which does not make his attempts to promote citizen unity any easier. In comparison, Olaf Scholz of the SPD enjoyed a satisfaction rating of 56 percent three months after taking office, while Merz now falls to just 32 percent, according to the Time determines.

The coalition partners CDU and SPD are also under pressure. Only 29 percent of citizens are satisfied with the black-red coalition, a decrease of 10 percentage points since last month. This is also reflected in the negative attitude of 69 percent towards the coalition. Many citizens prefer to see a change in the political landscape, which raises further discussions about possible coalitions.

Outlook for the future

The thought of an early end to the coalition haunts people's minds. A good 43 percent of those surveyed believe that the black-red coalition will not last until the next legislative period in spring 2029. Only 52 percent are optimistic that the coalition could hold until then. Current surveys also give rise to speculation about other political alliances in the Thuringian region, from which new coalitions could possibly arise if the right mix of seats is available, as in the case Dawum platform is addressed.

Conclusion: The political situation in Germany is tense and it will be exciting to see whether the tide will change or whether dissatisfaction will continue. The numbers speak for themselves, and it remains to be seen how the actors will react to them.
