Bevensen Forest School: 11 million for modern all-day operations!
A new wind is blowing through the forest school in Bad Bevensen. The Bevensen-Ebstorf community has big plans for the popular educational institution, which has shaped generations of students since 1968. The first drafts are to be presented next December, which envisage the future design of the forest school with all-day operation in mind. To this end, it is planned to invest a total of 11 million euros in the 2026/25 budget draft in order to create a modern learning place that meets the needs of the students. This emerges from a report by AZ Online.
A central concern of school principal Janet Fibik is to continue to maintain the tree-lined school garden while at the same time enabling barrier-free access through new structural measures. Not only are differentiation rooms planned, but also a covered corridor that makes the cafeteria accessible. This will provide lunch for the children in the future and is part of the concept for all-day operation that has already been developed.
Space for creative development
The current classrooms are too small, which is why group rooms should be created for two classes each. The aim of using shared corridors is also to promote cross-class activities. Another highlight that the school is looking forward to is its own leisure room, which offers opportunities for play and exercise. The mayor of the joint municipality, Martin Feller, emphasized the important steps for successful all-day teaching and underlined the need for differentiation spaces.
Preparations are already in full swing and the community has secured a plot of land for the planned new buildings. Renovations and conversions in the existing building are also necessary in order to meet modern requirements and to meet the legal requirements for all-day care, which will apply to the first grades from 2026 and will gradually increase up to the fourth grade.
A look at the past
The forest school has a long history that is closely linked to the development of education in Bevensen. School operations have changed significantly over the years, but have always offered students a well-founded education. Some are reminiscent of the powerful images that can also be found in artist films such as “The Legend of 1900” by Giuseppe Tornatore. This film tells the captivating story of a gifted pianist who spends his entire life on an ocean liner and never leaves the ship. Such narratives also inspire the development of new learning environments that encourage creativity and teamwork.
The challenges posed by the new building are underpinned by the pressure to progress construction work quickly. A specific time target for completing the work is still pending, but efforts are being made to minimize disruption to lessons and to offer students a modern, inviting place to learn. The forest school is ready for the future!
