New daycare concept in Achim: More space for children and flexibility!

A lot is happening in the area of early childhood education in the city of Achim. The city administration has launched a new daycare strategy that offers more flexibility and increased support for children. This reports District newspaper. A central element of this initiative is the introduction of cross-age groups in the Achimer Himmelsstürmer, Kita Solaris and the Uphusen crèche. These new groups will include 15 children aged 18 months until they start school to ensure more individualized care.

The decision to restructure comes in a context in which the city of Achim plans to close the Achim-Mitte daycare center. Loud Weser courier The offerings from this daycare center are to be relocated to the new daycare center in the northern city center. The reason for this step is overcapacity and the need for renovation of the old facility. In addition, declining registrations in the daycare area have led to fewer daycare places being needed.

Important credentials and perspectives

The registration deadline for the coming daycare year 2026/2027 ends on January 31, 2026. Parents are requested to register their children in writing via the Central Registration Office for Daycare Centers (ZAK) and to provide evidence such as employer certificates. The registration form is available on the city's homepage as well as in the daycare centers and in the town hall. When registering, parents should also specify three desired facilities and order them according to priority.

The city has decided to reduce the group size in the elementary groups from 25 to 23 children. This measure is seen as an essential step to ensure better support for children in their development and to create a stable environment. The low numbers in the crèche sector, which make the restructuring necessary, are also supported by the new educational guidelines. These include, among other things, the importance of individual support and the holistic education of children, as also stated in the guidelines for early childhood education, which were defined in a common framework between the countries ( Eurydice ).

Future outlook

With the start of the new daycare strategy and the resulting renovations, which are expected to be completed at the end of 2024, the new North City Center daycare center is scheduled to begin operations at the beginning of August 2024. The city of Achim is therefore striving to better serve the changing needs of families in Achim and the surrounding area and to further increase the quality of early childhood care.

Parents who do not receive a placement for the 2026/2027 daycare year will be informed in writing that they will remain on the waiting list. Even if reshuffles are only possible in exceptional cases during the current daycare year, the new concepts and strategies are a clear step in the right direction to meet the needs of the children and their families.
