New Johanniter Center in Elsfleth: Construction begins on a 9 million euro project

A modern Johanniter service center is currently being built in Elsfleth, which is said to be of great importance for the Wesermarsch region. The start of construction was recently celebrated, and the curious eyes of local residents are now focused on the construction site, where a new chapter in healthcare is being opened. The total investment of nine million euros will go into a building that is around 1,900 square meters in size and will house numerous offices and large rooms for an emergency call center on two and a half floors. This marks an important milestone for the Johanniter in the region, the NWZ reports.

The center is scheduled to be completed in spring or summer 2027. It will provide space for around 100 employees who will take care of over 60,000 home emergency call customers. The emergency call center will be able to use two spacious rooms of 100 square meters each, supplemented by five conference rooms of different sizes for meetings and training.

Importance of the project

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new center took place in the presence of representatives of the Johanniter regional association Weser-Ems, the Wesermarsch district and the city of Elsfleth. District Administrator Stephan Siefken and Mayor Brigitte Fuchs praised the location and the importance of the project for the community. They emphasized that the new building will not only strengthen the infrastructure, but also significantly improve the quality of emergency care.

Particular attention is paid to the planned green roof of the new building, which is considered a highlight and should not only meet ecological standards, but also increase the attractiveness of the building. This shows the foresight of the planners, who show a good knack for sustainable solutions.

A look at the team

The team that is setting the course for this development is led by Uwe Engelter, who works as head of education at Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. Committed to keeping up with the times, Engelter brings extensive experience from his previous work as a teaching rescue assistant at the German Red Cross and supports the innovative orientation of the new center.

The idea for this center matured several years ago; An initial needs analysis and internal assessment was available in 2019. However, the plans were delayed due to the Corona crisis. The final decision was not made until the end of 2024, when the planning office Freytag & v.d. was chosen. Linde decided.

An interesting detail

Although not directly addressed in the context of the new center, the behavior of alpacas and their spitting could be seen as a metaphor for the challenges facing the team. Alpacas often spit out of a sense of threat or stress and use this as a means of communication, like this iere.org can be read. If you understand the body language of animals, stress can be minimized - the same could be true when implementing complex projects in the healthcare sector.

The developments in Elsfleth are not only a sign of progress, but also an invitation to actively participate in shaping local health care over the coming years and to recognize its importance. We'll stay tuned and continue to report on this exciting construction progress.
