Water extraction severely restricted: This is how you save in Wolfenbüttel!
Water extraction severely restricted: This is how you save in Wolfenbüttel!
In the district of Wolfenbüttel, the water withdrawal rules have now been drastically tightened by autumn 2025. The decision to severely restrict the removal of water from rivers and fountains is to ensure the ecological functionality of the rivers and the groundwater level. Until September 30, 2025, it is forbidden to remove water from larger rivers such as oker, innermost or honeycomb as well as from streams. This affects both agricultural use and private garden irrigation.
The ban on irrigation with groundwater affects public and private areas and sports facilities between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. This regulation is particularly important because in regions such as Salzgitter, water withdrawals are restricted from a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. In Hanover, too, special irrigation times apply between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
water shortage and agricultural challenges
The rising temperatures and the long -lasting dry periods, which have been observed in many parts of Germany since 2003, require careful use of water. In this way, studies show that more groundwater is taken in every second district of Lower Saxony than grows. The need for irrigation in agriculture has risen sharply, especially in dry years, such as 2015 and 2018. This also affects the vegetable, fruit and wine production that need special protection during such drought.
In order to counteract the ongoing drought, the installation of rainwater tanks is recommended. Funding is even available in some municipalities. These measures are not only important for farmers, but also for private individuals and sports clubs who are directly affected by the new regulations. The district of Goslar plans similar restrictions and also calls for saving water.
A look at the future
climate change has long since reached Germany and influences water resources to a considerable extent. Since 2003, a decrease in groundwater new formation has been recorded by around 15 % since 2003. These dramatic changes not only bring ecological, but also social and economic challenges. Regions with extreme weather conditions are increasingly struggling, be it through long -lasting drought or rapid rainfall.
Especially with water management, it is important to use new technologies and methods in order to counteract an impending shortage of water. Innovative approaches such as drip irrigation or the use of the bank filtrate can play a role here. The preventive measures are crucial in order to continue to ensure sustainable and just water management in the future!
The complex interplay of climate change and water resources requires everyone involved, be it politics, agriculture or citizens: inside, a responsible action. This is the only way to secure water for everyone in the long term. It is still important to sharpen awareness of your own water consumption and integrate water -saving technologies - because water is a precious asset that we should not lightly waste.
