Closure of the Amsterdam Ring: traffic confusion for bus routes in Aachen!
Traffic in Aachen will face a drastic change from October 13, 2025. As ASEAG reports, the Amsterdamer Ring/Kronenberg intersection will be closed to all traffic. This not only has an impact on road travel, but also entails extensive diversions for important bus routes. Buses on lines 4, 43 and N7 will have to change their usual course as the city prepares for major construction sites that could affect citizens' mobility in the coming months.
The directions of travel to and from the West swimming pool and the university clinic are particularly affected. For line 4, diversions will be made between Schanz and Kronenberg via Vaalser Straße. In the opposite direction, the route changes between Am Friedrich and Schanz, where the route is also diverted via Kronenberg. Line 43 will be rerouted between the Couven-Gymnasium and Kronenberg via Lütticher Straße and An der Schanz, while the night line N7 will have to adapt between Am Friedrich and Franziskushospital.
Stop changes and information
The diversions also involve some changes to stops. The Am Neuenhof and Am Backes stops will be closed without replacement. However, consideration is also given to passengers: a replacement stop for Am Friedrich will be set up in the former Kronenberg turning loop. The Preusweg H.5 stop in the Amsterdamer Ring will also be replaced by Preusweg H.1 on Lütticher Straße. There are also changes to the stop directions for lines 43 and N7.
In order to make it easier for citizens to keep an overview, the affected stops are recorded in a list. The diversions and changes will apply from the start of operations on October 13, 2025. ASEAG recommends that all passengers check the public transport apps or timetables before starting their journey. If you have any questions, you can also call the timetable information desk on 0800 6 50 40 30.
More construction sites in the region
It is also important to keep an eye on national construction sites. Similar to Aachen, diversions will also be necessary in other cities on the transport network. For example, construction sites have been announced in Duisburg and on the lines in Aldekerk. All of these measures are part of extensive road construction work that could lead to changes in regular traffic until next year. NIAG explicitly emphasizes the importance of being considerate of passengers and asks that you always look for up-to-date information.
The overview is rounded off by the advanced services of OpenStreetMap, which enable a detailed recording of public transport infrastructure. This data not only helps transport companies, but also users themselves, to find their way around public transport more easily and find the best connections - regardless of whether they are heading to a stop or driving across the city.
