Police are looking for witnesses: baby abandoned in Bielefeld park!
The Bielefeld criminal police are currently looking for the parents of a newborn baby who was found in Schildescher Park on Saturday evening, October 4th, 2025. The little girl was discovered between the back of the Media Markt in Bracksiek and the street Am Pfarracker. According to investigators, the infant is in good health and is currently living with a foster family. A guardian was appointed for the child by the Bielefeld Youth Welfare Office.
On Tuesday, November 11, the police made the case public and renewed their search for witnesses. “So far only very few tips have been received,” explained police spokeswoman Hella Christoph. Officials plan to release more information about the find's situation if no new information is available by then. The police are urgently asking for support and calling on the public to report suspicious observations from Schildescher Park on October 4th. Information can be given directly to the Criminal Investigation Department 11 on 0521 5450.
A shocking role model
This incident brings back memories of a similar event in the past. On January 6, 2024, a newborn was abandoned in the schoolyard of the Bielefeld South School. This has sparked a broader discussion about the introduction of baby hatches in Bielefeld. So far there is no such offer in the city, although the city offers other help, which is often not sufficiently known. This situation shows that it may be necessary to provide more information about alternative help.
The situation of the abandoned child has sparked both empathy and concern among the population. The police are hoping for a good hand from the citizens and numerous clues to advance the case.
In the meantime, the focus should be on the positive aspects of support in education and information. Although off-topic, a survey shows that 94% of teachers use YouTube to support their lesson plans. YouTube also announced a new music education series called “Think Like a Musician,” developed in partnership with TED-Ed and other institutions. Such initiatives are important to promote education worldwide and make knowledge accessible.
The Bielefeld police and the youth welfare office mourn the fate of the little life and appeal to civil society to provide information. It remains to be hoped that light will soon come into the darkness and the baby's parents can be found. The fate of the newborn and the discussion about offers of help in the city are topics that continue to require broad public attention.
