Bonn Police welcomes 108 new forces – a strong sign of security!
September 1, 2025 was a special day for the Bonn police. 108 new police officers and one administrative officer were officially welcomed at the Bonn police headquarters. The ceremony was led by Klaus Zimmermann, the deputy police chief, who warmly welcomed the new forces. Among the new officers, 88 successfully completed their studies at the technical college, which gave them the title of police commissioners. In addition, 20 other police officers moved from other police authorities to Bonn at their own request to take up their duties here, reports Honnef today.
But that's not all: 160 young women and men are also starting their training with the North Rhine-Westphalia Police in Bonn. These new trainees are appointed police commissioner candidates and take part in a dual course of study. The Bonn police are one of the ten training authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia, which illustrates the attractiveness of the training. The application deadline for the start of training in September 2026 runs until October 8, 2025 and is made via the portal Exactly-my-fall.de.
Educational opportunities for young people
The new two-year course at the Ludwig-Erhard-Berufskolleg, which has been offered since the 2022/2023 school year, is aimed specifically at students with an intermediate level of education or the right to attend upper secondary school. The aim is to acquire a technical college entrance qualification, which is supported by an integrated internship with the police in the first school year. The students have three days of internship and two days of vocational school per week. The second school year is spent entirely at the vocational college.
At the end of the 12th grade there is a final exam in subjects such as law, mathematics and English. Successful graduates then have the opportunity to join the police service as a candidate inspector and continue their dual bachelor's degree at the University of Police and Public Administration (HSPV NRW). However, applications for internships for the 2025/2026 school year are no longer possible - however, interested students can apply for 2026/2027 from February 1st to November 30th, 2025, like that LEB Bonn turns out.
Training and requirements
The training program at the NRW Police is demanding and covers a variety of subjects. The curriculum in the basic and advanced courses includes, among other things, operational theory, crime control, traffic safety work and law. The training is not only theoretical, but also practical. The practical parts take place in various NRW police facilities, and great importance is attached to regular proof of performance, including exams and target practice.
An important point for prospective police officers is physical fitness, which is crucial for coping with the numerous demands. If the performance assessments are not passed, retakes are possible, but candidates should prepare well for these challenges, otherwise there is a risk of dismissal. The police also make every effort to take applicants' place of residence into account during training in order to provide the candidates with the best possible support, according to the site Police NRW informed.
