On the night of June 28th to 29th, 2025, the A42 will be completely closed between the Bottrop-Süd and Oberhausen-Neue Mitte exits. The closure period extends from approximately 0:00 a.m. to approximately 5:00 a.m. The reason for the work is necessary measures by the transmission system operator Amprion, which is working on the adjacent power lines. The aim is to increase the voltage of an existing 220 kilovolt circuit to 380 kilovolts in order to meet the increasing electricity needs of households and the energy-intensive industry in the region. The structural work is part of a comprehensive line introduction to adapt the power grid to modern energy supply. To ensure safety during the work, a safety net was stretched over the motorway, but this will be dismantled during the closure.
