Dortmund on the hunt for a transfer: Will Chukwuemeka come back into BVB’s heart?
There is currently a lot of activity in the transfer market surrounding Borussia Dortmund. With the return of Carney Chukwuemeka, BVB has secured an important player after the talented midfielder had already played for the club on loan. Chelsea initially demanded high transfer fees, but have now agreed to offer a loan followed by an obligation to buy. In this way, Dortmund may be able to save its budget, which amounts to around 30 to 40 million euros, for further transfers, while the fans are already waiting impatiently for additional newcomers. In addition to Chukwuemeka, Jobe Bellingham and Patrick Drewes have already donned the black and yellow jersey. The entire fan scene is hoping for further reinforcements, especially after the last results in preparation, which were rather mixed.
The last friendly defeat against Juventus (2:1) showed that there is still a need for optimization. Mats Hummels played his last game for BVB and could look back on an impressive 508 competitive games. Dortmund attacker Maximilian Beier scored a consolation goal in stoppage time after Juventus had previously dominated, particularly thanks to Cambiaso's brace. Even the successes against Siegen and Lille in the previous games could not completely dispel the disappointment. The support of the 81,365 spectators was never forgotten, but the anticipation for the upcoming DFB Cup match against Rot-Weiss Essen on August 18th will be no less great.
Preparation for the new season
BVB will have to wait a few more days until further transfers can be announced. Lars Ricken, the club's sports director, had already announced at the end of July that movement was to be expected on the access side. The planned departures, including Giovanni Reyna, Cole Campbell and Sebastien Haller, could also impact the squad again. The versatile Fabio Silva is being traded for Haller, whose signing is definitely an answer to the possible departures. Silva should strengthen the offensive forces in order to form a powerful team that can compete at the top in the new season.
Another talent that is currently being traded in Dortmund is the young defensive player Juan Giménez. Negotiations are already underway here that point to a strategic restructuring of the defense. In addition, a loan from Facundo Buonanotte is being considered, as the high transfer demands currently make a fixed move unrealistic. In a forecast squad plan, Justin Lerma is planned for the 2026/27 season, which shows that Dortmund is also interested in a long-term perspective.
International comparison
Recently things also got international: In an extremely exciting game against Real Madrid, which took place at the MetLife Stadium, Dortmund had to admit defeat 2-3. Despite courageous efforts and goals from Beier and Guirassy, the Spaniards showed their class. Dortmund tried to assert themselves against the superior force by diversifying their tactical moves, but they also had to survive against world-class players like Kylian Mbappé. Such exciting encounters are an excellent opportunity for BVB to develop further before the start of the league and to learn where there is still room for improvement.
The coming days will be crucial for Borussia Dortmund to set the course for a successful season. The fan base is in the starting blocks and hopes that those responsible will act with the right instinct to further strengthen the team and be at the top of the game again.
