Destruction of health centers in Gaza: A cry for help to the world!
The situation in the Gaza Strip has reached a new low after the Israeli army attacked several Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) facilities last week. On September 22 and 24, 2025, two key health facilities were destroyed or severely damaged, exacerbating the already critical humanitarian situation. The Al Samer Health Center in Gaza City, which was one of the last remaining functioning facilities, has been defunct since September 22 and treated between 700 and 1,000 patients daily. The September 24 attack hit the Non-Communicable Diseases Center, previously the only center of its kind in the Gaza Strip, providing specialized health services, laboratory diagnostics and psychosocial support. With 52 employees and a large number of patients in acute danger, the future of medical care in this region is more than bleak. LokalKompakt reports a fourth attack on PMRS facilities within just two weeks.
The health infrastructure in the Gaza Strip is!=( in a state of disrepair. ThisWeekInPalestine highlights that while the PMRS continues to provide vital medical care to the remaining people of the Gaza Strip, the circumstances are dire. Since the outbreak of fighting on October 7, 2023, which has already over 25,000 lives have been lost, the population's access to care is severely limited. Over 300 health workers have lost their lives, and attacks on health facilities are increasing rapidly.
The role of PMRS
The Palestinian Medical Relief Society, founded in 1979 by Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, has spent nearly five decades ensuring access to health services for vulnerable Palestinians. PMRS currently operates 30 mobile primary care teams, covering 90% of essential healthcare in the Gaza Strip. Their teams have reached an impressive 363,000 people in the last 108 days, providing a variety of services including wound management, maternal and child health and mental health services. Psychosocial support in particular accounts for 35% of the services provided, with more than 100,000 children and young people benefiting from this.
The humanitarian crisis is described by many aid organizations as extremely worrying, particularly with no prospect of a ceasefire. Doctors Without Borders points out that an increasing number of people in Gaza are suffering from acute malnutrition, especially among children and pregnant women. Living conditions are unsustainable; many have no access to clean water and food supplies are severely limited. With around 180 births every day among the 50,000 pregnant women in the Gaza Strip, the need for functioning health care is particularly clear.
Creating public awareness
In order to draw attention to the catastrophic situation, a major rally entitled “All Eyes on Gaza – Stop the Genocide!” will take place on September 27, 2025. took place in Berlin. The event, which begins at 5:00 p.m. at the Großer Stern, 17 June Street, is supported by a coalition of organizations such as medico international, Eye4Palestine and Amnesty International and is an urgent call to support humanitarian crisis management in the Gaza Strip.
The ongoing attacks and deteriorating humanitarian conditions cast a dark light on the future of the people of Gaza. Without immediate international assistance and pressure for a ceasefire, the question remains as to how many more lives are at stake.
