Series of burglaries in Düren: Police are looking for witnesses after three crimes!

Last weekend there were three break-ins in Düren, one of which fortunately was only an attempt. The police have already started an investigation and are looking for witnesses who may have made suspicious observations. This is another chapter in a series of burglaries that have plagued the region recently.

The first incident occurred on Flurstrasse on Saturday, June 21, 2025, around 1:40 p.m. Here the perpetrators used a tilted window to get into an apartment in an apartment building and escaped undetected. What exactly was stolen remained unclear, according to information from Express.

Details about the break-ins

The second burglary took place on Sunday, June 22, 2025, between 12:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Römerstrasse, with the perpetrators targeting a single-family home. This is where the homeowners returning home noticed the break-in, but in this case too there is no reliable information about the loot. It also remains unclear how the burglars gained access.

The third incident is said to have taken place on Rotterdamer Straße between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Here the perpetrators tried to break into an apartment, but did not achieve their goal. The police are urgently appealing for information on 02421-949 0.

Burglary trend and statistics

These scenarios are not only a problem in Düren; crime in Germany has increased again after the corona pandemic. In 2023, around 119,000 thefts were registered nationwide, including 77,800 residential burglaries - this is the highest level since 2019, but still more than 50 percent lower than in 2015. Urban areas in particular, such as Bremen and Berlin, record higher risks of burglary, while Bavaria has the lowest numbers, according to an overview by Statista shows.

The clearance rate for residential burglaries was only 14.9% in 2023, well below the average of 58.4% for all crimes. A high proportion of the suspects also did not have a German passport, which continues to be a topic of conversation.

The police advise all citizens to be vigilant if they see anything suspicious and to pass on information as quickly as possible. Security begins in your own home. Protect yourself and your loved ones – be vigilant!
