Schommers takes over: New coach at Sportfreunde Siegen!
The Sportfreunde Siegen are facing a new beginning, as the club has brought a new head coach on board, Boris Schommers. Schommers, who was already active as a coach at 1. FC Nürnberg, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and MSV Duisburg, succeeds Thorsten Nehrbauer. Nehrbauer had to leave after a series of six games without a win, which included four draws and two defeats. A defeat against FC Gütersloh in particular was crucial for the Sportfreunde Siegen club management, who considered a separation necessary due to different sporting visions. Managing director Matthias Georg thanked Nehrbauer for his commitment, especially for the successful promotion from the Oberliga Westfalen to the Regionalliga West in the summer of 2023.
The first challenge for Schommers is not long in coming. Next Sunday at 2 p.m. Fortuna Düsseldorf's U23s will face Sportfreunde Siegen. Schommers, who already knows the Regionalliga West from his time at 1. FC Düren, will certainly develop some ideas by then to get the team on track. He will have to do without defender Malik Hodroj, who is suspended after a yellow-red card.
Preparing for the new era
In order to optimally prepare for the upcoming tasks, the Sportfreunde Siegen have arranged a test match against the third division team SV Wehen Wiesbaden during the upcoming international break. Kick-off for this important test match is on Friday, November 14th, at 2 p.m. at the training ground in Wiesbaden.
